Following the recent success of Thorngrove Manor as a recipient of an international quality assurance award for business best practice and quality commitment The International Platinum Star Award for Quality Commitment, we have again been awarded the prestigious designation of International Superstar Hotel Award from the Cahners/Reed Elsevier Group of companies. This biennial award from Star Service has been given in recognition of product excellence. ‘The Award singles out Thorngrove as one of the world's outstanding properties and demonstrates a level of excellence far above that of other hotels of a similar type’ (Star Service letter). This award is perhaps the more significant as these awards are usually won by large hotel properties. This year’s Australian winners are Thorngrove Manor, Hayman Island, The Ritz Carlton Sydney, The Hyatt Hotel Canberra, The Grand Hyatt Melbourne and Lilianfels Blue Mountains. Reed Elsevier is a world-leading publisher and information provider with its principal operations in North America and Europe. Cahners/Reed Elsevier employs over 26,000 worldwide with offices in 50 countries with 200 travel correspondents. It is the world's largest provider of independent information and reservation services to the travel industry. Cahners/Reed published the OAG (Official Airline Guide) and OHG (Official Hotel Guide) – the bibles of the international travel industry. They maintain the world's most comprehensive aviation database, supply flight information to all computer reservation systems used by airlines and produce an unparalleled range of trade directories and publications for travel professionals. Reed Exhibitions hold 300 events per year in 25 countries such as WTM (World Travel Mart), PATA and the British Travel Trade Fair. The Star Service selects 10,800 hotels from the 30,000 listed in the OHG and 1.7% are Superstars. This is the most prestigious and significant international hotel award to be received in South Australia. The awards are presented for corporate achievement to recognise prestige, innovation, quality and excellence in business and selected by a panel of 12 international judges along with mail and internet voting. In addition to voting, information is gathered from media (press radio and television), consultancy companies, advertising agencies, trade fairs and exhibits, chambers of commerce, embassies, polls, including the online macro poll, which is analysed by the International Platinum Star Award Selection Committee, which makes the final decision to select the annual awardees. The selection is based upon customer satisfaction, communication strategies, benchmarking, information and data analysis, planning and decision making, human resources, leadership, continuing education and training, processes and production, financial outcome, business results, ISO 9000 and TQM. The International Platinum Star Ceremony took place at a gala awards dinner on 22 November 1999 in Europe during the Platinum Star Conference at the World Quality Control Convention in Madrid, Spain. |
