The Shool Cottage… | ||
Oaklea is situated on the site of the old Wilsons Peak State School which opened in 1909 and at one stage had over fifty students. The school closed in 1944 and was moved from its original site in 1965 when we built our home there. We decided to restore it in 1999, and now it is a comfortably furnished cottage with lots of books and magazines, some classic video tapes, CDs and audio tapes for your enjoyment. The School Cottage will accommodate up to four people. It has picturesque views of the mountains of the Scenic Rim from all sides, and has verandahs where you can sit back and enjoy the country atmosphere. |
The Mill Cottage… | ||
The Mill Cottage was built to provide accommodation for single sawmill workers. With the sawmill closed for many years, this cottage has been restored to provide pleasant accommodation for groups of up to seven. The Mill Cottage has three bedrooms, a large central sitting room (warmed in winter by a wood heater), a kitchen, laundry and bathroom. Furnishings are comfortable and in sixties style. Guests often comment on how staying in the Mill Cottage brought back memories of the parents' or grandparents' homes. It, too, has views of mountains from all sides. |
