| Eltham Garden Retreat, a self-contained mudbrick cottage set in a Gordon Ford-designed garden, extensively anthologiesd in Australian garden history books. The garden is part of the Australian Open Garden Scheme, is just 25 minutes from the centre of Melbourne. The trio of circular mud brick buildings, was completed late in 1997. A fully equipped kitchen, bedroom with ensuite, a comfortable sitting room and private courtyard with waterfall complete the suite. The three mudbrick rooms are interlinked, providing bedroom with an ensuite, a fully equipped kitchen and a comfortable sitting room (mudbrick insulated in both summer and winter). A bookcase provides contemporary reading along with local and international garden books and magazines. Television, video, fridge, radio and electric blankets are provided. French doors lead to a courtyard surrounded by a curved mud wall which provides privacy and seclusion. A waterfall cascading over basalt rocks into a small pool creates a restful ambience in the courtyard. A substantial breakfast tray of seasonal food, homemade jams and breads, and ingredients for a cooked breakfast are supplied. Alternatively, a prepared breakfast and newspaper are delivered at your convenience. Excellent coffee and tea are stored in the cupboard along with superior condiments. |
