| Biggenden
Biggenden is a no frills laid-back country town. Some different crafts are available in the local craft shop in the main street. The best bread in Australia is baked in Biggenden, the best sausages in Australia are made by the local butcher and a hamburger from the cafe Classic will have you coming back for more. The local citrus blossom honey has a taste you'll never forget. Visitors are most welcome at the nine- hole golf course at Biggenden. Green fees are currently AU$4 for an 18-hole round. Biggenden has other excellent and very well kept sporting facilities for a town of its size lawn bowls club, tennis courts, turf cricket pitch, rifle range and swimming pool. In Biggenden just 8km away there is a wonderful coffee shop/craft outlet/cellar door set-up in a 109 year old restored blacksmith's residence at 21 George Street – do not miss it, two hotels, two service stations and a cafe providing meals at reasonable prices. Visit the cattle liveweight selling centre (Monday and Thursdays),
historic Chowey Railway Bridge, the Biggenden Museum, The Den local
crafts and the restored blacksmith shop. Bushwalk in Mount Walsh Paradise Dam and Lake Paradise, recently completed, offer water sports, fishing, signposted walks past old mine shafts and free barbecues. Fraser Island & BundabergJust one hour's drive away is World Heritage- listed Fraser Island, the largest sand island in the world with different flora, beautiful clear lakes, fishing and camping facilities and 4-wheel drive tracks. At Bundaberg just over an hour's drive from Edgehill you can board one of the tourist vessels or fly to Lady Musgrave or Lady Elliott Islands on the outer Great Barrier Reef for a day of coral viewing, snorkelling, fishing and fun. |
